The arrival of a new year is an apt time to reflect on the year that was, both personally and in business. We look back at 2023 and marvel at what was Headlokt’s first year. August 2023 marked the moment when we went live, with our website a buzz of activity and community building on our socials. Many months prior saw the labour of love to take the idea from concept to creation, in partnership with our award-winning Industrial Designers, Cobalt Design. From our first days of being live to the public, we knew we had created something special. We’re passionate about raising the bar on bike security and personal safety, and we’re so grateful to our community for coming along with us for the ride.

From Sketches to Solutions

It all started with a few sketches and a vision by our founder, Lisa Cotton. Recognising the need for a deterrent-level lock that wouldn't compromise the comfort or protection of a helmet, our design journey kicked off. The solution? A flexible cable lock with a spring-loaded mechanism cleverly tucked into the rear of the helmet for easy retraction. We meticulously integrated critical components, materials, and dimensional details to ensure Headlokt not only met but exceeded safety requirements. This is bike security unlike no other, in fact, it was a world first!

Gold in Good Design Awards

As our helmet-locks made their mark on the world, recognition came swiftly. Headlokt proudly clinched gold in the Good Design Awards, a testament to our commitment to excellence in both design and innovation. The prestigious accolade, received in September 2023 in the Product Design category, solidified Headlokt's position as a trailblazer in the industry. Not bad for a helmet that was only one month old!

Premier Recognition: Victorian Premier’s Design Awards

Our next accolade came a few months later, with the announcement that we had been shortlisted as a finalist in the Victorian Premier Design Awards. As a longstanding award within the Victorian Design space, we were thrilled to be recognised amongst some incredible peers. With winners announced in March 2024, we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed for another award under our belt. Watch this space!

Wholesaler Success with RV Parts Express and BikeExchange

Our success extended beyond awards, as two reputable wholesalers, RV Parts Express and BikeExchange, picked up Headlokt as part of their e-commerce marketplaces. BikeExchange, the world's leading bike marketplace, sells all things bikes in an impressive eight countries, which means Headlokt was now available overseas for the first time! Their platform, dedicated to buying, selling, and trading bikes and bike parts, adds a new dimension to Headlokt's accessibility and reach. RV Parts Express, was our next wholesaler to take us on. While primarily designed to service RV enthusiasts, it offers a thoughtful curation of devices and accessories that complement the RV lifestyle. We were so excited to be connected to a new community of adventurers.
